Vince Gilligan Shares He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer could not have predicted that Pluribus would turn into a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the popular program coming to an end—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—the creative team reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Fan Response

Anyone might to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. The creator is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like force fed something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it from others, and that's intentional. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“Better to keep our noses to the grindstone,” he chimes in.

The Central Mystery: Does the showrunner See the Finale of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff aren't taking cues by fan response, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… with some caveats.

“We have some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to discard a solid concept for a superior concept. That has held us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, one could always use the iconic TV endings?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
