The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the same level as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, donated by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that bring people together. Each year, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
