Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's understandable for doubts to be raised about his future after a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the club's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from the top,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to change things and get a victory naturally but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them since this game so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Failings and Player Response
Slot lamented recurring shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase such as this with results like these.”
He finished, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we will always fight.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
