New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Shooting
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during a recent discussion.
“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His family, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.”
The coach did not know when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.
“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “But I will say this, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. And again, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.”
Authorities issued security footage earlier this week of a man sought in the attack on the player. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.
The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday morning near the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a medical center after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, as reported. The perpetrator got away.
Glenn said Boyd has been in his thoughts “a great deal” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his wife just had a newborn.
“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, I’m thinking about his kid and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There is a procedure involved, which I won’t get into, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.”
Boyd hasn’t played in the present campaign, after joining the team, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with a shoulder injury that required surgery.
He joined the Jets as a free agent in spring and was expected to be an important component of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a practice session on 2 August and was carted from the field.
Boyd continued to be present all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.
“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he attends every game. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”
Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of UT in 2019. He later played for Arizona in last year and later was with the Texans later that season. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with New York in March.
