New Year's Revelers Urged to Bundle Up with Snow Forecast Throughout the UK
Weather experts have indicated a frosty beginning to the new year, with snowfall likely throughout a lot of the UK. Revelers are advised to bundle up as sub-zero temperatures are expected for New Year's Eve.
Festive Events Proceed Despite Forecasts
The Scottish capital's renowned Hogmanay festivities are expected to take place, following last year's cancellation. This proceeds amid advisories for snow in northern Scotland.
"A chilly New Year's Eve evening for those who are celebrating, so warmer clothes will be necessary," noted the weather service.
Fireworks Under Clear but Cold Skies
In other parts of the UK, the weather is likely to be ideal for fireworks displays, with a lack of precipitation and clear skies. The mercury are forecast to be chilly, so extra layers essential, according to forecasters.
Further north, conditions will be cloudier, but this is not anticipated to impact visibility for watching fireworks. "We are not looking at low cloud, mist or murk, so you ought to be able to see fireworks, just not stars," commented one forecaster.
Widespread Snow Warnings for New Year's Day
As we enter Friday, weather warnings are in place across Northern Ireland and extending from Wales, through the north-west, the West Midlands and reaching London and the majority of the south-east of England.

The Mercury Forecast to Fall Further
Going into the new year, it will be "chilly no matter where you are," said forecaster Simon Partridge. Temperatures are forecast to fall even more as wintry showers and strong winds are likely to hit the north of the country.
Approximately 10cm of snow is expected to have settled in some areas by Friday morning, reaching up to 30cm on the highest roads and hills.
Health Alerts Issued
At the same time, amber-level health advisories have been issued for the north-east and north-west of England. These are due to continue until noon on 5 January, with temperatures expected to fall to between 3C and 5C.
Authorities explained this indicated the weather was likely to cause significant impacts across health and social care services. This includes a expected uptick in the fatality numbers among those with health conditions or those 65 and older.
