Israelis have assembled throughout the country to mark two years since the Hamas-initiated attack on 7 October 2023, as discussions proceeded in Egypt over an end to the war in Gaza.

The assault resulted in more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as hostages. It was the single deadliest day for Jews since the World War II.

Israel reacted by initiating a armed campaign in Gaza which has claimed over 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its figures are regarded as trustworthy by the UN and other world agencies.

"The bloodthirsty opponents have caused great damage, but they have not overcome us," the leader stated on that day.

He also pledged to "realize all the objectives of the war: the homecoming of all the abducted, the removal of the Hamas government and the assurance that Gaza will not pose a threat to Israel".

Commemorative Gatherings Across Israel

The government authorities rescheduled state memorials until mid-October - after the conclusion of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still were held across the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the relatives of Israelis killed in the Hamas attack was conducted in Tel Aviv. Put together by the families themselves, it was televised on Israeli TV networks.

Hours earlier, a minute's silence was held around the country.

Peace Discussions in Egypt

Simultaneously, both sides' negotiating teams gathered in the North African coastal city of the Egyptian city for a second day of indirect talks to discuss the conditions of the proposal.

A senior delegate familiar with the discussions said that an night meeting of mediated discussions began at 7 PM local time.

The official said the earlier meeting ended without tangible results, amid disagreements over the proposed Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas demands to make certain Israel does not recommence hostilities after the initial stage of the deal.

He noted that the negotiations are "tough and have yet to deliver any significant progress," but mentioned that facilitators are making efforts to reduce the differences between the two sides.

Essential Issues in Discussions

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The swap of the prisoners still kept by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of troops from Gaza
  • Plans for humanitarian aid distribution
  • After-conflict governance of the territory

Citizen Reaction

In Tel Aviv's memorial area previously, young Hagar - whose sibling survived the incident on the Nova music festival, where many attendees were murdered and numerous more were taken hostage by Hamas militants - explained: "No location seems like home now and until all the hostages come back no one will have peace of mind."

"When we see all home again, we can relax again. Then we can begin to rebuild," she added.

Near Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's home in Jerusalem, people congregated to express their support for the families of the abducted. Israel says 48 stay in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are thought to be surviving.

Demonstrator a participant explained: "We need do every compromise needed for the hostages to return. But we really want guarantees that we will be protected."

Surveys now frequently demonstrate that around seventy percent of Israeli citizens prefer the hostilities to end in exchange for the liberation of the abducted.

Gaza Conditions

At the area of the gathering, those paying respects came together to remember the victims.

From there, the boom of Israeli air strikes and explosions could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where local people said the heavy Israeli attacks continued.

In the main city, attacks were reported in the dawn of that day in the west side district, area and locality neighbourhoods and in the eastern neighbourhood of the community, as well Shati refugee camp to the north-west.

"When the dusk comes, the anxiety appears with it," evacuated urban resident a local woman, whose young son was died by an Israeli aerial attack last year, described.

"My family are fearful of the bombings. During nighttime we are lying together, embracing, especially my youngest child who rests his face on me all night."

"Continuously we monitor the updates to see what happened. And I'm worried that this truce will not be finalized and that the war will return to us."

Humanitarian Situation

The healthcare center in Gaza City said it had received the bodies of six people by the afternoon, including several who died in an Israeli bombing in the southern district.

Another medical facility in the south region of Khan Younis said another two fatalities had been transported. A person was lost his life by Israeli soldiers while attempting to get assistance to the south, health workers said.

The territory's health ministry announced a significant number of the {territ
