Fans Urge Arrest of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted followers of the pop star are demanding that a individual who breached a barricade and seized the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A circulating footage reveals the Australian man pushing past camera operators and charging at Grande while the performers walked down a yellow carpet flanked by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "free after being taken in", though court documents showed that he was due to attend court on the next day. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
History of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram feed includes recordings of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last winter.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," commented an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user questioned.
Fans Express Concern Over Grande's Past Trauma
Numerous followers accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote one more response on Instagram.
Some supporters also criticised guards at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals demanded social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande seemed surprised when she was approached by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Hundreds of supporters had assembled in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore mall, including a number who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The film, to be released on the 21st of November, is the sequel of a two-film interpretation of the popular stage production Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely relationship between two distinct witches.
The show itself is a derivative of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a light pink glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and scored 10 Oscar nominations, winning several for outstanding attire and production design.
