Reports surfaced of several detonations and the sound of low-altitude jets in the Venezuelan capital in the small hours of Saturday. The incident has prompted accusations from Venezuela's leadership and calls for diplomatic scrutiny.

Venezuela Condemns Washington of Aggression

Venezuela's authoritarian regime has blamed the Washington of committing "imperialist aggression," claiming that former President Trump reportedly ordered attacks against the Latin American country. In an official declaration, the authorities stated that strikes had impacted Caracas and three other provinces: Miranda, La Guaira, and Aragua.

"The only objective of this attack is to gain control of our nation's natural resources, notably its crude oil and minerals," the statement asserted.

Caracas appealed to the international community to censure the strikes, which it described a "clear infringement of international norms" that put countless of lives at risk in jeopardy.

Reports of Blasts and Military Installations Targeted

Residents reported hearing at least multiple detonations around 2:00 AM in the morning. People in several neighborhoods allegedly hurried into the streets.

"The whole ground shook. This is frightening. We heard explosions and jets in the area," stated one resident.

Smoke was seen rising from two military installations in the city: the La Carlota airbase air base and the Fuerte Tiuna compound, where leader Nicolás Maduro is believed to have a residence.

Global Condemnation

The leader of neighboring Colombia, stated on a social platform that "At this moment they are bombing Caracas... bombing it with rockets." He requested an swift emergency session of the Security Council.

Colombia, which just joined the Security Council, said it would activate security measures at its border with Venezuela.

Preceding Events

The reported strikes are preceded by a extended campaign of pressure by the Trump administration against the Venezuelan regime. Since August, authorities reported a major American military buildup off Venezuela's northern coast and a number of airstrikes on vessels suspected of narco-trafficking.

Venezuela's government has declared "a state of external disturbance" and ordered all national defence measures to be activated. It has also urged its political forces to mobilize and "repudiate this imperialist attack."

American officials and the Defense Department did not publicly addressed requests for clarification regarding the allegations.
