Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable changes:

  • Every squad includes just eight real players, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions done by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for players seeking different ways to have fun with the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 players are upset.

Player Reactions: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and another details all the issues they consider to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds another. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them halfway, according to forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

If the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
